Learn About What Led to the Creation of Braezen | The Homestead Apothecary
The Philosophy
Ever since I can remember, I've always felt there was something more to life than what can be measured or explained. Like the biggest scam was the idea that there is anything ordinary about the ordinary.
As a child my favorite game was one I had made up and named, "Alchemy". I would gather bits and pieces of plants around my house or on the playground and mix them into “potions”, totally convinced I was harnessing the power of the universe. Little did I know, that was the beginning of my journey. The beginning of an unending desire to uncover the hidden patterns woven throughout the world. While adulthood gave me a more practical perspective, it never took away that sense of wonder. If anything, it strengthened it.
Over time, I began to notice that much of what we call magic is simply science we have yet to define. Experiences and understandings that are rooted in intention and catalyzed by action.
A mother spends hours laboring in the kitchen, diligently cooking a soup to nourish her family - thus, a witch's potion is brewed.
Words delivered with purpose change the course of a life - thus, a spell is spoken.
A garden cultivated with patience transforms a landscape - thus, fairy homes are given life.
The habits we practice each day quietly shape who we become. Transforming into rituals and the, dare I say, religious rites of the living.
I began recognizing how the rituals we practice, the tools we wield, and the thought behind our everyday acts are part of what makes us human. At Braezen, I embrace that humanity through honest craftsmanship and connection to the natural world.
Modern society has achieved extraordinary advancements, but in the pursuit of convenience and mass production, many of us have grown disconnected from the origins of the products we use every day. Too often, self-care has become sterile, over-processed, and difficult to trust.
Braezen was created for those seeking a more grounded approach, but also for those who are over being blindly led to mindless consumerism. For those who are bold enough to say, "No, I refuse to continue this cycle of insanity," and "There has to be a better way."
Don't get me wrong, there are so many miracles that come with living in today's time. Such as the ability to communicate across the world, and learn from people we may never meet face-to-face, as you and I are doing now. However, I believe that our ancestors knew something many of us have lost, yet deeply long for:
“Intentional living begins with intentional creation”
Inspired by traditional ingredients, humble craftsmanship, and the rituals that connect us to everyday life, Braezen exists to create goods that feel personal, useful, beautiful, and alive—tools made not only to be used, but to become part of a story worth carrying forward. Something that acknowledges the wisdom of the past while also recognizing the miracles of modern life.
Braezen's Origin
When I began my own health journey, a hero's quest if you may, I found myself asking deeper questions about the products I used and the ingredients they contained. Years of skin sensitivities and unsuccessful treatments led me to research, experiment, and eventually begin crafting products of my own.
What started as a search for answers, became a calling toward craftsmanship. The same craftsmanship I was emulating as a child playing a silly game and believing in the magic of fairies. That's when I realized that maybe those things weren't so silly. Maybe that is what was missing from what I saw all around me. Whimsy, and the unadulterated (pun intended) belief in the reality of magic.
The next evolution in my studies was when I learned more about my ancestry. I became indulgently fascinated by the traditions that shaped the generations before me. Understanding where my family came from helped me better understand myself. The foods they ate, the environments they adapted to, the remedies they relied upon, and the lives they lived all left traces that continue through me today.
Not because the past is perfect.
But because there is wisdom worth preserving.
We are, in many ways, the continuation of our ancestors' stories. Their struggles shaped our strengths. Their adaptations shaped our bodies. Their choices helped create the lives we live today.
Braezen’s methodology was born from a desire to honor those stories while creating something meaningful for the future.
I believe that what we place on our bodies matters.
I believe that the objects we surround ourselves with matter.
I believe that intention matters.
Most of all, I believe that people deserve products made by someone who genuinely cares about what they are creating. Every dollar someone spends with Braezen represents time, effort, and resources they could have devoted elsewhere. I believe that trust deserves to be honored.
I have never been interested in making products simply for the sake of making money. In fact, I didn’t originally intend to sell skincare products at all. At first, I only made products for myself because I couldn’t find anything better that wouldn’t break the bank. When I saw the results of what I was making and fell in love with the act of crafting my own potions so to speak, I started giving custom blends as gifts to my friends and family. Then I began noticing something interesting. I kept hearing the same phrase over and over from the people I was creating these products for, “I wish you sold this stuff. I love it so much that I wish I had a way to buy it on a regular basis”. That’s when I realized there was a void in my community, and I could fill it.
My hope is simple:
To help people cultivate a more intentional relationship with themselves, their homes, and the rituals that shape their lives.
Because the older I get, the more I believe that a meaningful life is not built through grand gestures.
It is built through the small acts of care and consideration we practice every day.
Here's to the everyday magic hiding within each and everyone of us. May we see a little more in the moments that make up our lives.
